ABOUT THE A.I.R. AWARDS

The A.I.R. Awards is an important program, for both the radio industry and for the health of our nation's children. It is a national radio competition designed to celebrate excellence in local radio. Entry categories cover all aspects of the radio industry, from programming and promotions to news, public affairs and advertising. All proceeds from the A.I.R. Awards benefit the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation whose sole mission is to eliminate birth defects and infant mortality.

In 2002, the A.I.R. Awards celebrates its 16th anniversary and now takes place in more than 20 markets including Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Harrisburg, Miami, Milwaukee, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Raleigh-Durham, St. Louis, San Francisco, Tampa and Washington, DC.

The unique aspect of the A.I.R. Awards in comparison to other radio awards programs is that it is run by the radio stations themselves. Each market has a Board of Governors comprised of General Managers, Program Directors, Promotions and Marketing Directors, Sales Managers and other local industry professionals. Awards ceremonies are held each year, attended by thousands of the most influential radio professionals.

The program has been extremely successful to date, raising nearly $2,000,000 for the March of Dimes continued research, and developing invaluable relationships throughout the radio industry. The A.I.R. Awards will continue to expand each year.

Again this year the program is endorsed by Radio & Records, the Radio Advertising Bureau, Radio Business Report, American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, Inside Radio, Radio Ink, American Women in Radio and Television, and many other local and national associations.

The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. The March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education and advocacy. In 2002, the March of Dimes celebrates its 64th anniversary, marking more than six decades of lifesaving breakthroughs for babies. For more information, contact:
