Pierre Robert's
22nd year at WMMR was marked by the
richly deserved recognition that
accompanies the Lifetime Achievement
Award. As our 10th Anniversary honoree,
Pierre embodies the professional and
personal qualities of all Lifetime
Achievement Award winners. He is an
unparalleled communicator and tireless
booster of both rock and roll and
Philadelphia, "the city that loves
him back", universally known for the
consistency, integrity and joy he
demonstrates every day in the service of
his listeners. |
In addition, his energy is
given to an almost endless list of community
groups and good causes, including AIDS research,
environmental protection, animal rights, suicide
prevention, music education and many more. (Click here to

2003 Awards ceremony.)
A native of northern California, Pierre
discovered the pleasures of rock and roll early
in life and was in the perfect place to
experience and participate in the birth and
flowering of what was then called the
"counter-culture". Radio was part of
this new movement of music, art, peace and love,
and Pierre found his niche as an assistant, then
as a part time DJ, at San Francisco's legendary
progressive station KSAN. That station's eventual
switch to country music started a chain of events
that resulted in Pierre finding his way to
Philadelphia and WMMR in 1981 -- to the mutual
good fortune of all concerned.
Whether enjoying a beloved cup of coffee in
peaceful Rittenhouse Square or risking life and
limb sweating buckets in the Electric Factory
mosh pit during a Green Day concert, Pierre's
loyalty to music, to radio, to Philadelphia
listeners and to the larger community have earned
him a place in history, and in our hearts.
