Don Cannon was, for nearly 40 years until his retirement in 2001, a dominant voice on Philadelphia airwaves at WIBG, WIP, WFIL, WIFI92, SUNNY104, and finally as weekday morning host on WOGL, Oldies 98.

Don has always been a friend to charitable organizations in the Delaware Valley. In the mid-70's he stayed on the air for 99 hours straight to collect food for the needy on behalf of The Cardinal's Commission On Human Relations. He served as chairman of the Easter Seals Society Bike-A-Thon in 1975, co-chaired the Arthritis Foundation "Evening Of Champions" in 1978 and hosted the Leukemia Society Radiothon and received the Leukemia Society Award for service and support.

Father Judge High School named him 1982's "Man Of The Year" for his dedication to high school athletics. Don is a strong supporter of the Viet Nam Veterans Society and received their award of recognition as well.

In the 1990's Don started The Don Cannon Variety Club Tournament Of Champions, a golf event benefiting handicapped children which raises close to $100,000 each year. In 1995 he was presented with the Radio-Media award by Variety Club International for outstanding service and support.

During the administration of Mayor Ed Rendell, Don and the Mayor co-hosted the annual City Hall Gala to raise money for the restoration of this historic building.

(And yes, that WAS Don's voice on the radio while Rocky Balboa trained for his big fight in the first Rocky movie!)
