ABOUT THE AIR
AWARDS
The A.I.R. Awards is
an important program, for both the radio industry
and for the health of our nation's children. It
is designed to celebrate excellence in local
radio. Entry categories cover all aspects of
radio from programming and promotions to news,
public affairs and advertising. All proceeds from
the A.I.R. Awards benefit the March of Dimes
Birth Defects Foundation whose mission is to
reduce prematurity and infant mortality.
In 2009, the A.I.R. Awards celebrates its 23rd
anniversary. The unique aspect of the A.I.R.
Awards in comparison to other radio awards
programs is that it is run by the radio stations
themselves through a Board of Governors comprised
of radio and other media professionals.
The program has been extremely successful,
raising over $2,000,000 for the March of Dimes
continued research and developing invaluable
relationships throughout the radio industry.
The program is endorsed by the Radio Advertising
Bureau, Radio Business Report, American
Federation of Television and Radio Artists,
Inside Radio, Radio Ink, American Women in Radio
and Television, and many other local and national
associations.
The March of Dimes funds programs of research,
community services, education and advocacy. In
2008 the March of Dimes celebrated its 70th
anniversary, marking seven decades of lifesaving
